John Bonds Snedegar

John B. Snedegar, 89, of Bangs, Texas, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 23, 2013, at his home (the Big 6) in Bangs Texas.



The son of Maggie Bonds and John Thomas Snedegar, he was born on September 27, 1923 in Coleman County, Texas.



A child of the Great Depression, John B. left home at the age of 15 to begin work in the Civilian Conservation Corp, a New Deal program for youth and later was a part of the National Youth Administration. He was employed at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi, Tx. when he volunteered for the Army Air Corps, serving in the European theater during World War II, during which time he was awarded several medals, including seven Bronze Stars. John was honorably discharged at the end of the war as a sergeant. After leaving the military, John attended Hardin Simmons University in Abilene and then worked as a contractor in the Coleman area. In 1967, he went to work in the civil service for the United States Air Force, first in Laredo and then at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, where he remained until his retirement in 1990. John B. and Janeria built their retirement home, the Big 6, in Bangs Texas where they enjoyed the country life for the last 22 years.



John B. married the love of his life, Janeria Elizabeth Lynn on February 15, 1957 in Coleman. John B. was a loving family man who enjoyed music, hard work, fishing, boating, and a good game of 42 and dominoes.



John B. was a member of Central Baptist Church in Coleman, where he formerly served as a deacon.



Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Janeria Snedegar of Bangs; one half-sister Elsie Lee of Coleman; four daughters Susan Barnes and husband Greg of Lubbock, Lisa Todd and fiancAC. Patrick Dunn of Waxahachie, Johnna McArthur and husband Mac of Godley, and LeeAnn Shaw and husband Mike of Lawrence, Kansas; and two sons, Stephen Snedegar of Clyde and Jason Snedegar of Austin. John is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Nathan John Barnes and wife Leslee of Fort Worth, Josh Barnes and wife Isabel of Fort Worth, Suzanna Barnes of Austin, Mary Beth Pritz of Plano, Michael John Varett of Germany, and Carter and Mason Shaw of Lawrence, Kansas, along with great-grandchildren, Madison and Parker Pritz and Gabriel Gillespie of Plano, Braden Varett of Plainview. John also leaves behind two step-grandsons, Hank McArthur of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Tyler McArthur of Andrews.

John is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Geneva Arnold and nephew, Michael Arnold.



Funeral services will be at10:00 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2013 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel in Coleman officiated by Rev. Dr. Nathan J. Barnes and assisted by Rev. Chip Pinkerton. Burial will follow in the Coleman Cemetery.



Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 25 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan, Coleman, Texas 76834.



Pallbearers will be Stephen Snedegar, Greg Barnes, Joshua Barnes, Patrick Dunn, William Canada, and Mike Shaw. Honorary pallbearers will be Carter and Mason Shaw.



Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church in Coleman and Solaris Hospice in Brownwood.
