Johnnie Beatrice (Cox) Wakefield

Johnnie Wakefield, age 85, of Ballinger, died Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Coleman County Medical Center.

Family and friends can pay their respects from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Stevens Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to a graveside funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 9, 2023, at the Potosi Cemetery, 2782 Potosi Road, with Bradley Bundrant officiating. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.

She was born Johnnie Beatrice Cox on September 17, 1937, in Biloxi, Mississippi to Elton Cox and Louise Lewis Cox. Johnnie grew up in Biloxi where she attended school. She married Robert “Bob” G. Wakefield and with this union four children were born. Johnnie worked for the Taylor County Courthouse District Clerk for many years. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and spending time with her family. Johnnie was a member of the Avenue B Church of Christ in Ballinger.

Preceding Johnnie in death are her parents, Elton and Louise Cox; her husband, Robert “Bob” Wakefield; two brothers, Roy Cox, and Bill Cox; and one sister, Bobbie Politz.

She is survived by her four children, Karen Lynn Tussing and husband Phillip of Aurora, Colorado, Keith Wakefield and wife Cecilia of Potosi, Dave Wakefield and wife Bridget of Coleman, and Megan Wakefield of Ballinger; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Caldwell.

Memorials are suggested in memory of Johnnie to the Coleman County Senior Center Meals on Wheels, 916 S. Concho Street, Coleman, Texas 76834.
