Johnny Dean Harris, 81, of Coleman, died Friday, January 4, 2019 at Coleman County Medical Center. Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman.
Johnny Dean Harris was born April 20, 1937 in Coleman County to James Harris and Dovie Neal Harris. He grew up in Coleman, graduating from Coleman High School. He later graduated from Draughon’s Business College in Abilene. Johnny worked most of his life as a farmer. He enjoyed tending to his livestock on his Burkett and Coleman farms. He loved being outdoors. Johnny also served many years as a host at the Coleman Museum, along with his parents, at the city park. He loved history and sharing stories with people as they visited the museum. He also wrote articles for several magazines.
Survivors include nieces and nephews, Virginia Potts of Santa Fe, Tennessee, Marsha Harris of San Angelo, Ruthie Priddy of Bangs, Dr. Charlie Ferguson of Killen, Alabama, Kenny Ferguson of Iron City, Tennessee and Jimmy Bassett of Bangs. Many great nieces and nephews also survive, along with family that he called his own, Alonzo, Anna, Eddie, Danny and Gwen.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bill Bassett, Leonard Harris; one sister, Mary Lou Harris Gaskell; two nephews, Stan Harris, William Thomas Gaskell and a sister-in-law, Retha Harris.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Coleman Health County Medical Center, Coleman Healthcare Center and Dr. John Horner for the wonderful care given to Johnny during this time.
