Joyce Shahan

Joyce Shahan, age 79, of Lake Coleman, died Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Coleman County Medical Center. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 11, in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Daniel Stovall officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.


She was born Loretta Joyce Brown on December 25, 1933 in Murchison, Texas, a daughter of Clebern Brown and Velma Mewbourn Brown. She grew up most of her young life in east Texas and then graduated from Doyle High School in Foster, Oklahoma in 1951.


On September 19, 1952 she married Jack Shahan in Doyle, Oklahoma. They lived in Eunice, N.M. for 16 years and retired to Lake Coleman in 1990. He preceded her in death on June 5, 2008. Joyce was a bookkeeper for Chaparral Services in Eunice, N.M. She was a Baptist.


Survivors include two sons, Ron Shahan and wife Terrie of Lake Coleman and Keith Shahan and wife Sue Zann of Burlington, Oklahoma; one daughter, Denise Mohar and husband Michael of Midland; four grandchildren, Kristopher Rouse and wife Melissa of Pennsylvania, Brandi Hughes and husband Kenny of Eunice, N.M., Robin Anastasio and husband Chris of Midland, Lance Shahan of Burlington, Oklahoma; four great-grandchildren, Kadin and Alyssa Hughes, Natalie and Ashlyn Anastasio; one sister, Carolyn Whaley of Duncan, Oklahoma; nephews and nieces that she loved very much; and cousins.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Annette Young.


Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Friday at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman, Texas 76834.
