Lawrence Gandy, age 64, of Richmond, passed away in hospice care on Sunday, October 11, 2015 in Conroe, Texas. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 16, in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman, with Teddy Gandy officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman, Texas.
Lawrence Gandy was born August 15, 1951 in Monterrey, California, a son of J. L. Gandy and Frankie West Gandy. He grew up most of his life in Coleman, where he also attended school. He was Baptist.
He worked as a Police Officer from 1971 until he retired in 1987. He worked for the City of Coleman Police Department, The City of Rosenberg Police Department, The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office, the Missouri City Police Department, where he was also a member of their S.W.A.T. team, and the Midland County Sheriff's Department.
In 1980 He received a commendation from the State of Texas, signed by Governor Bill Clements Jr., for his outstanding investigative work with the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Department.
Survivors include one brother, Teddy Gandy and wife Jo of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; one sister, Cathy Wallace and husband David of Ozark, Missouri; his children, Cody Ransberger and wife Diana of Abilene, Lance Gandy and wife Kellen of Montgomery, Lee Ann Gandy of San Antonio, Lawrence Gandy, Jr. of Rosenberg, and Brittany Bost and husband Brad of Jensen Beach, Florida; sixteen grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Leesa Gandy in 1972.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 15, 2015 at the funeral home.
The family of Lawrence Gandy would like to say a special thank you to Edie Gaston, a close family friend who was a tremendous help to the whole family during this trying time. She was there with her support through it all and the family deeply appreciates it. We are all indebted to her for her generosity.
