Lovera Mountain Strickland, age 83, long-time Burkett resident, died Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at Red Stone Park in Brownwood. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 5, at the Burkett Cemetery Pavilion with David Wallace officiating and eulogies given by Jackie Strickland and Randy Strickland. Interment will follow in the Burkett Cemetery, Coleman County, Texas, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman.
Lovera Mountain was born April 22, 1937 in Coleman County, Texas, a daughter of Lat Mountain and Eunice Strawn Mountain. She grew up in Burkett and graduated as Salutatorian of her class at Burkett High School. On June 6, 1955 she married Jack Strickland in Burkett and he preceded her in death on November 5, 1999. Lovera served as Postmaster of the Burkett Post Office for a number of years, retiring in 2004. She was also very involved with the Burkett community and especially with the Burkett Volunteer Fire Department. Lovera enjoyed gardening, canning, reading, playing Scrabble, flowers, birds, and Blue Bell ice cream. She enjoyed having her family over for Thanksgiving and other occasions. She was a member of Burkett Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Jackie Strickland and wife Julia of Burkett and Bryan; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins; a son-in-law, Mark Turney of Santa Anna.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter, Marsha Turney.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Burkett Volunteer Fire Department, c/o Linda Brady, P. O. Box 356, Burkett, Texas 76828, or Solaris Hospice, 107 S. Park Dr., Suite D, Brownwood, Texas 76801.
