Lt. Col. (Ret) Roy Dean Henson

Lt. Colonel (Ret) Roy Henson, 75, of Santa Anna died Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Hendrick Medical Center. Graveside service with Military Honors will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 18, 2014 at the Central Texas Veterans Cemetery, 11453 State Highway 195, Killeen. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman.

Lt. Colonel (Ret) Henson was born April 1, 1939 in Fort Worth to Howard Franklin Henson and Daisy Louise Cubbison Henson. He grew up in Fort Worth and graduated from Northside High School. He later graduated from Central Texas College in Killeen with a Bachelor's degree. He married Nelda June Evans in 1958 in Fort Worth.

From 1962 to 1980, he served in the United States Army, having been stationed overseas in Vietnam. Lt. Colonel (Ret) Henson earned the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Cross of Gallantry as well other various honors and medals. Following his retirement from the U.S. Army, he worked for Freed Appliance Distributors in Fort Worth. He later moved to San Antonio and finally to Santa Anna in 1988.

Survivors include his wife, Nelda Henson of Santa Anna; four children, Kerry Henson and wife, Donna, of Coleman, Ricky Henson and wife, Debra, of Coleman, Karen Pizzini and husband, Fulton, of Bandera, Renessa Pierce and husband, Jim, of Valley View; three brothers and sisters, B.R. Henson of Benbrook, Linda Hunsuckle of Watauga, Ronny Henson of Jacksonville, Florida; 10 grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Henson.
