She was born Margaret Frances Grether on September 4, 1928 in Zanesville, Ohio, a daughter of P. T. and Lillian Gaston Grether. Although she was named Margaret, she was always known as Peggy. She grew up in Zanesville, Ohio, where she attended school. At the age of 16 she moved with her family to Texas. On May 4, 1957 she married Eddins W. Ward in San Benito, Texas and they resided in Brownsville, Texas, where all three of their children were born. In 1968 they moved to Coleman where they lived until 1987, moving at that time to Georgia, where they lived for two years. In 1989 they settled in Brownwood and became members of Early First Baptist Church. While living in Coleman they were members of Concho Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and a mother and took care of her immediate and extended family her whole life. Whatever the circumstances of life, her faith in God never wavered. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is resting in the arms of Jesus.
She is survived by her husband, Eddins Ward of Brownwood; three daughters, Josie Essary and husband J. W. of Early, Jean Campbell and husband Winifred of Early, and Lynda Addy and husband Jim of Franklin, Georgia; six grandchildren, Tim Campbell (wife Donna), Shauna Karnes (husband Cliff), Jeremy Essary (wife Misty), Kevin Campbell (wife Jamie), Dalton Shumake and McKenzie Campbell; an adopted grandson, Wesley Baccus; seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister, and a grandson, Christopher Roberts.
