Marie Hudson

October 5, 1933 — March 31, 2025

Coleman

Marie Hudson, born on October 5, 1933, in Novice, Coleman County, Texas, left this world peacefully on March 31, 2025, at Holiday Hill Nursing Home, surrounded by the warmth of cherished memories and the love of her family. A devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, Marie's vibrant spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.

Growing up in the close-knit community of Coleman, Marie was a bright student who graduated with the Class of 1951. It was during her time working at the J. B. Hilton Insurance Company that she met her beloved husband, Neil Hudson. Their fateful meeting, begun with a Christmas card, blossomed into a partnership grounded in love and companionship. They married on May 31, 1953, at the First Methodist Church in Coleman, a place that would remain significant throughout their lives.

Marie dedicated herself to her family and community, supporting Neil in their livestock and ranching endeavors while also serving as the long-time secretary at the First Methodist Church, contributing to its fabric for many years by working alongside eight different ministers. Her commitment to the church extended beyond her role as a secretary; she held numerous leadership positions on various committees, served diligently as the Sunday School Superintendent, and played a vital role in organizing and supporting Vacation Bible School. Her love for her church was evident in everything she did, as she nurtured her own faith and fostered that same sense of community, among others.

After the passing of Neil in 2011, Marie embraced independence and continued to run their cattle ranch north of Coleman, demonstrating her remarkable strength and determination. She found joy tending to her yard, taking pride in her beautiful San Augustine grass. Friends and family would describe her as vivacious and friendly, with an innate ability to connect with others. She had a good sense of color, style, and fashion that she showcased even in her later years, including memorable experiences modeling clothing for Christopher and Banks in Abilene. Always keeping busy, Marie remained active, engaged, and deeply loved by her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Thaxton, and her husband George; sons, Dan Hudson and David Hudson and his wife Patricia; granddaughters, Ann Marie Hudson and her partner Bo Atkinson, Adrienne Hudson McGrath and her husband John, and Sarah Hudson; grandson, Wesley Hudson; as well as her cherished nephews, Tracy Casey, Richard Casey and Vernon Glaze, and niece, Lynn Cooper and her husband Jeff. Each of them carries a piece of her legacy forward, deeply influenced by her strength, compassion, and love.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Grace and Richard Casey; her beloved husband, Neil Hudson; and her brother, Lee Casey. Though she has left this earthly realm, Marie Hudson's spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of all who were fortunate enough to know her. As we remember her today, we cherish the countless memories and the profound impact she made during her lifetime.
