Mary Virginia Arnold Wireman was born at Voss, to Ralph “Rafe” and Anna Laura Arnold on November 17, 1920. She passed from this life at the Riverview Nursing Facility in Boerne at 6:24 a.m., Sunday, March 18, 2018, at the age of 97. Mary attended Mozelle High School where she was a member of the ladies’ basketball team which won the County Championship in 1939. While at Mozelle, she met and married Lawrence Garland Wireman on March 17, 1939. They were married for 68 years until Garland’s passing in 2007. Mary was also preceded in death by her son, Terry Garland Wireman (1948-2015), as well as her 12 brothers and sisters; Lehman, Lela Wayne, Lala, Lester, Foster, Jewel, Leroy, Mabel, Benjamin, Modene, Preston, and Hazel.

Mary is survived by her son, Mickey Lawrence Wireman (Peggy Gilmore Wireman) of Hunt; her daughter-in-law, Lesa Whitehead Wireman (Terry’s widow) of Mason; four grandchildren; Lara Natario of Belton, Tara Karina Martin (Jason Martin) of Belton, Seith Wireman (Amy Colvin Wireman) of Big Lake and Arett McLarty of Mason. Mary will also be missed by a sister-in-law, Frankie Arnold of Robert Lee, one nephew and numerous nieces.

For many years Mary and Garland supported themselves by farming and ranching in Coleman County. The drought of the early 1950’s forced them to move into Coleman, where Garland began a new career with Halliburton Oil Well Cementing. In 1958 Halliburton took them to Farmington, New Mexico where they remained until Garland retired in 1965. Eventually they returned to Texas and Garland began working for the Texas Railroad Commission. After retiring from the Railroad Commission, they lived in San Angelo and Kerrville.
