Mildred Barnes, 101, of Coleman, died Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Coleman County Medical Center. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman, with Dr. Don Northway officiating. Burial will follow in the Talpa Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
She was born Mildred Mae Monroe on March 26, 1913 in Maypearl, Ellis County, Texas, to Earon Homer Monroe and Maudie Akins Monroe. She came to Coleman County as a child and attended school at Talpa. She married Virgle “Boots” Barnes on March 14, 1936 in Valera. They lived at Voss for a few years, before moving to Coleman in 1944. She was a housewife and a member of Concho Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sisters, Billie Rouillard of Melbourne, Florida, Patsy Jackson of Coleman, Joyce Livingston of Abilene, Patricia Jones of Coleman; one brother, L.J. Monroe of Bronte and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Ruby Butler, Ruth Williams, Veoma Fisher and three brothers, Milton Monroe, Weldon Monroe and Ardell Monroe.
Family visitation will be from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2013 at Stevens Funeral Home.
