Nancy Louise (Orr) Barnes

Cross Plains

Nancy Orr Barnes, age 82, of Cross Plains and former Coleman resident, died Thursday, March 19, 2020, at Hendrick Hospice Care in Abilene.  A private double service for Nancy and her husband, Charles, who died March 23, will be held on Saturday, March 28, at the Cross Plains Memorial Cemetery.  The family will have private family viewing on Friday at Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.

She was born Nancy Louise Orr on July 14, 1937, in Coleman, a daughter of Arthur Frank Orr and Octavia Dobbins Orr.  She grew up in Coleman where she graduated from high school in the Class of 1955.  On November 4, 1955 she married Charles James Barnes in Coleman.  Since her husband worked in the oil fields all over the world, they spent time in many different states and countries.  They lived in Denton and Burleson before moving to Malta, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Scotland, Malasia, Indonesia and Singapore, where they spent about 18 months at each location. Their children were also able to experience many diverse cultures and experiences.  During off times of working, they maintained a home in Coleman and lived here frequently for short times over the years.  In 1997 they settled in Cross Plains.

Nancy was also a homemaker, mother and grandmother.  She worked for Texas Instruments in the Dallas Fort Worth area where she was an inspector.  She attended Lake Brownwood First Baptist Church.

Survivors two sons, Bruce Wayne Barnes and wife Sandra of Kingwood and Bobby Shane Barnes and wife Laura of Lafayette, Louisiana; one daughter, Jamie Kay Apple and husband Rickey of Cross Plains; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Arthur Frank Orr, Jr., of North Richland Hills.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
