Neilene Sue Leonard, age 76, of Coleman, died Friday, May 5, 2017, at Holiday Hill Nursing Home. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 12, in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Coleman Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman.
She was born Neilene Sue Webb, but was always known as Sue. She was born January 6, 1941 in Ponca City, Oklahoma, a daughter of Neil Webb and Ida Lorene Bible Shipman. She grew up in Ponca City, Oklahoma, Santa Anna, Texas and Seminole, Texas. She graduated from Seminole High School. On February 28, 1975 she married Lonnie Ray Leonard in Coleman and he preceded her in death on September 14, 2013. Throughout her life, Sue lived in Phoenix, Arizona, Hobbs, New Mexico, Brownwood, Texas and Coleman, Texas. In 2014 she moved to Coleman where she resided at Holiday Hill Nursing Home until her death. While living in Phoenix, Sue owned and operated a home day care. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Brownwood.
Survivors include one daughter, Serena Birdsong of Phoenix, Arizona; one step-daughter, Stacy Brannen and husband Jeff of Stanton; one grandson, Sidney Smith Shatford V of Phoenix, Arizona; four step-grandsons, Greg Brannon and William Brannon both of Coleman, Caleb Brannon of Llano and Trey Harris; one brother, Johnny Dean Shipman of Hobbs, New Mexico; three sisters, Cynthia Henson and husband Jack of Fort Worth, Diane Proctor of Brownwood, Patricia Shipman of Houston; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joy and Bob Gillespie of Clyde, Cathy and Randall Dutton of Brownwood, Carolyn McGee of Coleman, James and Mildred Leonard of Brownwood and Carl and Cheri Leonard of Canyon; several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 1719 9th Street, Brownwood, Texas 76801 or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 11, from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman, Texas 76834.
