Nyo J. Lowe, 88, of Brownwood, died Friday, November 22, 2013 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center. Graveside funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Greenleaf Cemetery, 2701 Highway 377 South, Brownwood with Ricky Cavett officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Nyo Jarnette Lefner on September 10, 1925 in Brawley, California, the daughter of Stephen Granville Lefner and Mary Elizabeth Weedon Lefner. She grew up and in Long Beach and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. During the summers of her youth, she would return to Brownwood, and spend them with family. She met John Lowe in Brownwood while he was stationed at Camp Bowie. The married in March, 1945. They lived in Brownwood for several years before moving to where ever the Military took them over the next 14 years.

Following John's retirement from the United States Army, they made Hemet, California their home, where they raised their two sons. They started Lowe's Bookkeeping Service and operated it from their home until John's death in July of 1977. The following year, Nyo moved to Missoula, Montana. She worked in the library at the University of Montana for several years. She later moved to Brownwood in 1989. She worked as the receptionist at the Pecan Valley American Red Cross for five years, served in different capacities during Brown County elections, was the Treasurer of the Brown County Republican Women, was life-time member of the Society of Military Widows, member of the National Association of Uniform Services and a member of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling, not only in the United States, but around the world and was an avid fan of baseball. She enjoyed taking her grandchildren and later her great grandchildren on little day trips, even if it was just to the park.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Carolyn Lowe of Brownwood; three grandchildren, Robert and Christy Lowe of Coleman, Nancy Trowbridge of Brownwood, Kathy and Paul Stephens of Brownwood; 10 great grandchildren, John and Courtney Scinta of Temecula, California, Jacqueline Scinta of Coleman, Lou Scinta, III of Brownwood, Michael Waldrop of Prior Lake, Minnesota; Kari and Bobby Whitney of Savannah, Georgia; Elizabeth Trowbridge of Brownwood, Bryan Trowbridge of Brownwood, Ruth Ann Lowe of Brownwood, Joshua Redmon of Brownwood, Jacob Redmon of Brownwood; five great great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Glenna Lefner of Bethel, Alaska; five nephews; several great nieces and great nephews and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lowe; a son, Stephen Lowe; a sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Dewitt Fields; a brother, Dwight Lefner; a granddaughter-in-law, Jeanna Lowe.

Family visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 25, 2013 at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman.
