Othell Dean

September 20, 1940 — August 30, 2015

Othell Dean, 74, of Coleman, died Sunday, August 30, 2015 at Coleman County Medical Center. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman, with Rev. Brad Slaten officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

William Othell Dean was born September 20, 1940 in Newton County, Mississippi to John Ponto Dean and Virgil Era Bullard Dean. When Othell was 10, he and his family moved to Coleman. He attended school in Mississippi and in Coleman. He served in the National Guard for three years. In October, 1960, he married Dixie Thomlinson in Brownwood. He started his own company, Dean Construction, and worked in Brownwood and Coleman as carpenter and painter. On December 3, 1982, he married Sandra Felty in Coleman. Othell was baptized in the Church of Christ in Mississippi and had attended North Coleman Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Dean of Coleman, five children, Sherry Davis and husband, Harell, of Brownwood, Jodie Dean and wife, Cindy, of Fourney, Christi Green of Abilene, Debra Dean of Coleman, Robert Ely of Arlington; one sister, Bettie Witt of Coleman; one brother, J.P. Dean of Stonewall, Mississippi; one sister-in-law, Betty Dean of Houston; 10 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Beisdes his parents, Othell was preceded in death by three brothers, Bobby Dean, Billy Jack Dean, James Nathaniel Dean and one sister, Beatrice Lee.

Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at Stevens Funeral Home.
