Patsy Ann Stevens Giles

Pat Giles, 79, of Lake Brownwood, died Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home in Coleman. A graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at the Crews Cemetery in Runnels County with Rev. Wayne Lewis officiating. There will be a visitation from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman. The funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 1:20 p.m. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Patsy Ann Matthies on February 13, 1938 in Winters to Charles Matthies and Leona White Matthies. She grew up in Winters and graduated from Winters High School. After high school, Mrs. Giles attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree. She later attended West Texas State in Canyon, where she graduated with a Master’s Degree in English. She married John Stevens. Mrs. Giles taught for 39 years, many of those years at Coleman ISD. She also taught at the college level. She started the Latch Key Program in Coleman, was a member the Retired Teachers of Texas, TSTI, loved reading and enjoyed traveling the world, including Russia and Germany after the Iron Curtain and the Berlin wall were taken down. As a souvenir of that trip, she was able to get a piece of the wall to bring back home. After the death of her husband, John, she married Jerry Giles on January 1, 1995 and they made their home at Lake Brownwood.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Giles of Lake Brownwood; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sharry Stevens of Royce City, one grandchild, Hunter Stevens of Camp Lejeune, Jacksonville, North Carolina; one sister, Marcene Hall of Plano and one brother, Roy Matthies of Abilene.

Memorial donations in memory of Mrs. Giles may be sent the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011.
