R. Bruce Simmons, age 87, of Hamilton, passed away Monday, July 1, 2013 in Temple. Memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman, Texas with Baker Rudolph officiating.
He was born Robert Bruce Simmons on August 7, 1925 in Temple, Texas, the only child of Robert Edmund Simmons and Margaret Poindexter Simmons. He grew up in San Angelo and various towns in south Texas. He attended Texas A & M University before joining the United States Air Force. Following his service to his country, he resumed his education and graduated from Texas A & M with a degree in architecture.
He worked in architectural firms in Houston for thirty years, eventually retiring from his own firm of Simmons Associates. He was a long-time member of the Holland Masonic Lodge #1 in Houston. He was a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo as well as being a member of the Tejas Vaqueros.
Survivors include two daughters, Leigh Simmons Ivey and Kelly Simmons Norvell both of Fort Worth; two grandchildren, Robert Michael Becker of Cypress and Ann Renee Norvell of College Station; two great-grandchildren, Ruth Leighann Becker and Abigail Marie Becker; four step-great grandchildren.
