Raymond C. Machen, 89, of Brownwood, died Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman, with Rev. Alan Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in the Gouldbusk Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
He was born January 13, 1924 in Shields to Waddie Franklin and Rosa Etta Graham Machen. He grew up in Shields and Gouldbusk and attended school in Gouldbusk. He served in the United States Army, was a stock farmer and a carpenter. On May 25, 1998, he married Bonnie Brown Yeilding on the Panther Creek CISD Campus in Voss.
Raymond was a very quiet, unassuming person who was liked by everyone. He was honest, hardworking and a special grandfather figure to all his nieces and nephews. He was a caring, loving husband. At the age of 14, he committed his life to Jesus Christ and was baptized. He was a deacon at Gouldbusk Baptist Church, where he was a member for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Machen of Brownwood; three sisters, Alma Fay Trammell and husband, Leslie, of Weatherford, Mary L. "Nettie" Davis and husband, Don, of Haltom City, Nancy Strickland of Brownwood; many loving nieces and nephews and his step-children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Chester Machen, Arthur Wade "Hokey" Machen, Sam Machen; two sisters, Nellie Ruth Faith and Ella May Row.
Family visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
