June 6, 1952 — January 12, 2021

Coleman

Rev. James Michael Posey, age 68, of Coleman, passed from this life and entered the Kingdom of Heaven on January 12, 2021 at the Coleman County Medical Center.

The family will host a visitation starting at 9:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 18, 2021 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.  Rev. Dale Griswold, pastor of First Assembly of God Church in Memphis, will officiate.  Rev. Gayland Morris, pastor of New Beginnings Assembly of God Church in Brady, will assist.  Interment will follow in the Rough Creek Cemetery in Novice.  Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.  Face coverings are required to attend the visitation and funeral service.

James was born June 6, 1952 in Monahans to Franklin Newton Posey and Etta Neil Posey.  He grew up in Wickett, Texas, Ward County, where he attended school.  James joined the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War.  He moved to Coleman in 1965 and married Jimmie Wilkins on April 2, 1971 in Coleman.  James loved fishing and riding his motorcycle.  He loved all people and had a place in his heart for everyone.  You knew he really liked you if he pulled a prank or told you a joke.  It was in 1991 that James received a calling from his Lord to spread the word of Christ.  He started doing a street ministry and in 1992 became the minister at Jesus Saves Ministry in Coleman.  Through his actions and love for Jesus, James brought many people to know the word of God and salvation.  In 2009, James took the job of Maintenance Supervisor for the Coleman Housing Authority.  He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.  He cared deeply and loved unconditionally.  If he were here, he would quote a verse from Philippians 1:21, “For me to live is Christ; For me to die is gain.”

James is joined in heaven by his parents, Franklin and Etta Posy; his brother, Don Posey; his sisters, Geneva Gray and Marie Newman; and his grandson, Rowdy “Crisco” Escobar.

He is survived by his wife, Jimmie Lee Posey of Coleman; his children, Sandy McWhirter and husband Sherman of Coleman and Danny Posey and wife Kelly of Mertzon; his grandchildren, Daniella, Measha, Parker, Peyton, and Tye; his great-grandchildren, Zoey, Sophia, and J.J.; his brother, Richard Posey of Roby; his sisters, Jeanie Crawford of Grand Falls, and Frankie Arnold of Robert Lee; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
