Rev. Kenneth Harlan, 76, of Coleman and former resident of Amarillo, died Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home in Coleman. Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Resthaven Memorial Park, 5740 West 19th Street, Lubbock. Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman, is in charge of the arrangements.
Rev. Harlan was born February 21, 1939 in Lamb County, to George Daniel Harlan and Lillian Maurine Shepherd Harlan. He grew up in Slayton and graduated from Littlefield High School in 1957. He then graduated from Hardin-Simmons University and later from Southwest Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity. On August 6, 1964, he married Oma Jane Torrance in Atlanta Georgia.
Rev. Harlan worked for Craft-Hinds and Bell Helicopter as a Quality Inspector. He also pastored various churches in the Texas panhandle and northeastern New Mexico. He moved to Amarillo in 1980. For many years, Rev. Harlan pastored a church at Lake Conchas, New Mexico, making the five hour round trip every Sunday. After the death of his wife, Jane, Rev. Harlan moved to Coleman in 2008 to be near family. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Amarillo, First Baptist Church in Amarillo and attended First Baptist Church in Coleman.
Survivors include his two children, Bart Daniel Harlan of Haltom City, Sandra Michelle Rose and husband, Joe Lee, of Coleman; one sister, Mary Lougenia Harlan of Lubbock and two granddaughters, Hanna and Natalee Rose of Coleman.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Jane Harlan on June 29, 2007.
