Richard V. Curtis

Richard V. Curtis, age 82, of Coleman, died Monday, December 17, 2018, at Coleman County Medical Center.  His wishes were to be cremated and his family is honoring that request.  There will be a memorial service at a later date, which will be announced.  Arrangements were made by Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman.

Richard Venson Curtis was born February 20, 1936 in Mills County, Texas, a son of Elwin Carl Curtis and Mary Oneita Miller Curtis.  With his family, Richard moved to Brown County in 1940 where they lived for several years.  In 1946 they moved to a place West of Trickham, Coleman County, Texas and later moved to Santa Anna, Gorman and near Lohn.  He attended school in all these places and returned to live in Gorman.  He moved to Odessa where he was a roughneck in the oil field and earned his GED.    While working in the oil field, he also was a farm worker, and had a custom harvesting business with his father.  After about 20 years, his father died and he continued to operate the business.  Eventually he worked for John Dockery, farming and working cattle.  After retiring from there, he moved to Santa Anna, where he lived for two years.  After spending time in the hospital in Coleman, he moved to Coleman Healthcare Center where he resided for about two years.   He then moved to the Coleman High Rise for a short period of time.  Following another hospitalization, he moved to Holiday Hill Nursing Home, where he had lived for the last two years.

He is survived by one brother, James M. Curtis of Coleman; one half-brother, Barry Curtis of League City; nieces and nephews, Elgin Knox Talley, Louise Talley, John Talley, Ricky Talley, Emily Permenter, Janet Miller, Martin Wells, Raymond Wells, Jason Curtis, Jeremy Curtis, Joseph Curtis and John Winston Curtis; several great nieces and great nephews; two first cousins, Edwin Dyer of San Antonio and James Miller of Austin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Carl Curtis, two half-sisters, Margaret Talley and Eddie Leonard, and a niece, Darlene Talley.
