Gene was born on December 11, 1948 in Hobbs, New Mexico, the son of John Dobbins and Marjorie Woods Dobbins. He was one of eight children. He grew up and attended school in Coleman.
Gene began working right out of high school. He worked for Car Quest for 36 years. He later worked for Monroe Auto Parts for two years and O'Reilly Auto Parts for the last nine years. He worked 47 years at a job that he loved. He interacted well with customers and was liked by all. He shared his wealth of knowledge and showed us all what it meant to be a professional parts person. Gene made a lasting impression on everyone he meet, with his gentle ways.
Gene was a quiet, passive man, who led a simple life. His favorite past time was hunting. He could be found hunting with his brothers, grandchildren and friends. Gene had a loving relationship with his brothers. They had a close bond that only brothers have. And the love they shared with others, spoke volumes.
Gene was a God fearing man. He was a member of North Coleman Baptist Church.
Besides his parents, Gene was also preceded in death by one sister, Connie Marie Dobbins Olinger and two nephews, David Barnett and John Paul Dobbins.
Those he leaves to treasure his memories are one daughter and grandson, Michelle and Dakota Newman of Coleman; three sons, Mack Faries and wife, Deanna of Gainsville, Shawn Faries and wife, Julia of Memphis, Tyson Faries and wife, Talena of Coleman; six brothers and sisters, Andrew and Pat Dobbins of McKinney, Jeannie and Bob Herring of Mesquite, Elizabeth and Charles McLaughlin of Coleman, Donald and Tracy Dobbins of Arkansas, Johnny Dobbins and his companion, Cheryl McLaughlin of Coleman, Robert and Marilyn Dobbins of Coleman and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Those he left behind will forever love him.
Gene is also survived by the love of his life, Kay Faries. Gene and Kay were loving companions who were joined heart and soul. She held his hand and he held her heart.
