Ronnie Cogdill, age 67, of Coleman, passed away Wednesday, March 04, 2015 at Coleman County Medical Center. Funeral service will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, March 7 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brad Slaten and Rev. John Stanislaw officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Brown Ranch Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Ronnie was born June 17, 1947 in Palestine, Texas, the son of Emmett Daniel Franklin and Christine Walling. He grew up in Houston where he graduated from high school. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from Sam Houston State in Huntsville. He served in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge. On April 4, 1969 he married Hilda Ruth Hill in Houston and she preceded him in death on September 26, 2003.
Ronnie worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a prison guard at the Jester Unit II in Sugarland for 12 years. He moved to Coleman in 1984 and was a truck driver. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he was a member of the choir.
Survivors include one son, Les Cogdill and wife Laurie of Coleman; one daughter, Crystal Mitchell and husband Gary of Llano; six grandchildren, Dustin Dela Rosa, Shelton Cogdill, Cody Cogdill, Serenity Cogdill, Kilea Cogdill, Marcus Mitchell; six great-grandchildren, Dana Cogdill, Ethan Dela Rosa, Keira Cogdill, Easton Dela Rosa, Shanell Cogdill, Caiden Cogdill; 13 brothers and sisters; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife and one sister.
Memorials may be made to any Veteran's organization.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 6 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman, Texas.
