Rosa Ortega

Rosa V. Ortega, 86, of Coleman, died Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home. Funeral Mass will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 303 East College Avenue, Coleman, with Rev. Romanus Akamike officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Rosa V. Aguilar on April 20, 1928 in Fort Worth, the daughter of Joe B. and Lucy Flores Aguilar. She grew up and attended school in Coleman. On May 23, 1944, she married Pablo Ortega in Pharr. He preceded her in death on October 1, 2011. With her husband by her side, they owned and operated El Ranchito Restaurant in Coleman for over 30 years. Rosa was a member of the Guadalupe Society, a Cursillista and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include her children, Mary Alice Moreno of San Marcus, Rose Salazer of Arlington, Dorothy Seballos of Coleman, Ray Villarreal of Mason, Lee Flores of Abilene; sixteen grandchildren, Melissa Gonzales, Christi Hopkins, T. J. Moreno, Laurie Hubbard, Andrea Holton, Jennifer Melton, Emilio Seballos, III, Tish Rodgers, Dee Dee Lessord, Lisa Crump, Levi Villarreal, Luke Villarreal, LaRae Cunningham, Marisol Navarro, Roel Lopez, Nina Lopez, several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Rosary will be 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman.
