Roy C. Smith, age 99, of Coleman, went to be with the Lord on the morning of December 31st while in Abilene spending time with his children. Sadness will be felt from missing him each day but more importantly, immeasurable happiness for the awaiting reward resulting from his faithful obedient life and sincere kindness shown to others.
Roy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and friend to all those around him. Roy enjoyed spending his time with his family, watching Rangers baseball, singing hymns, and always learning new things. He had a charismatic personality that never failed to make everyone feel included and his contagious laugh invited everyone to laugh along with him. He never failed to touch the lives of those who he came into contact with by his genuine love for others and love for Christ. Roy embodied Christ in all aspects. He not only spoke of Christ’s love to others, but lived his life according to His word. To know Roy Smith was to know the Lord and we believe that is the best compliment he would ever have liked to receive.
He was born Roy Carrol Smith on July 2, 1921 in Coleman to Charles A. Smith and Flora Wilson Smith. He grew up in Coleman where he attended school. He joined the United States Army on August 29, 1942 in Abilene and proudly served his country during World War II. He received an Honorable Discharge on January 19, 1946 at Camp Shelby Mississippi.
