Ruth Newton, age 94, of Rockwall, and formerly of Coleman and the Doole-Stacy area, died, at the Brookdale Summer Ridge Assisted Living in Rockwall, Texas on Monday, April 18, 2022.
The family will host a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman. Family and friends are invited to a graveside funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2022, at the Stacy Cemetery Pavilion, found south on 503 in McCulloch County, Texas, with Mike Riley, minister at Menard Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will follow in the Stacy Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.
Preceding Ruth in death is her parents, Lester and Stella Cox; her husband Don Newton; and her son, Barry Newton.
She was born Ella Ruth Cox on February 9, 1928, near Stacy, Texas to Joseph Lester Cox and Stella Idol Cox. She graduated from the University of Texas with an accounting degree before marrying Wiley Donald “Don” Newton on April 18, 1953, in Coleman. Ruth worked as the office manager and accountant for Bryant Industries into her eighties. She moved to Rockwall to be closer to family and friends.
She was a lover of animals, especially her beloved dogs. Laughter followed her wherever she went. Witty and fun-loving Ruth made friends easily. She loved to read, look at family pictures whether old or new, travel, swim, and float down the Colorado River. Time spent with family was a priority in her life. Being together and sharing at Christmas and Thanksgiving were her favorite times.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Embrey; her grandson, Aaron Newton, his wife Jennifer; two great-grandchildren, Megan Newton, and Barry Newton; daughter-in-law, Sharon Sizemore; A few dear nieces, Dana Travis and her husband, Mark, and their three children, Shelly Kolle, and her husband, Steve, and their four children, Mary Kay Coel, her husband, Ed along with their children, and a nephew, John Collins, and his wife, Pat. She had many special great-great nieces and nephews and extended friends and family.
