Shirley Allred Davis, age 83, of Lake Coleman, died Thursday, October 4, 2018, at Coleman County Medical Center. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 8, in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Seth Moore officiating. Interment will be in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
She was born Shirley Yvonne Allred on February 7, 1935, in Knox County, Texas, a daughter of Ark Colquett Allred and Virginia Waldean Hix Allred. She grew up in the Comanche County community of Beattie and then lived in Fort Worth where she attended elementary school. She moved to Haskell where she attended high school. On March 24, 1952, she married Lloyd Taylor Davis in Haskell. Following their marriage, they lived in Haskell but soon moved to El Paso where they lived two years. They later lived in Abilene for ten years, Wyoming for six years and in Clyde for 30 years. About 14 years ago, they moved to their retirement home at Lake Coleman.
Shirley was a homemaker and also worked as a sales person at Catherine’s Dress Shop where she was in the top 10% of sales for the entire chain of stores. She later worked as a day care worker in Clyde. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Clyde but after moving to Lake Coleman, she and Taylor were the leaders of a Bible study group that met there for 12 years. She loved collecting, especially clocks and tea pots.
She is survived by her husband, Taylor Davis, of Lake Coleman; daughter, Karen Beasley of Weatherford; two sons, Keith Davis and wife Bonnie of Stephenville, Kent Davis and wife Jackie of Flint; ten grandchildren, Amy Dobbs, Aimee Bissett, Matt Davis, Kirk Caraway, Courtney Boles, Lauren Roberson, Mallory Martin, Chelsea Soper, Kylea Bunn and Evan Beasley; 19 great-grandchildren; one sister, Sandra Rainey and husband Bud of Friona; one brother, Don Allred of Houston; numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Gary Allred.
The family suggests memorials be made to Lake Coleman VFD, 140 Scenic Drive, Coleman, Texas 76834.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 7, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman, Texas.
