Shirley Joyce Lewellen Merryman, age 78, of Coleman, died Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at an Abilene hospital. Graveside funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 14, at the Coleman Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating. Interment will follow in the Coleman Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Shirley Joyce Lewellen Merryman was born August 24, 1935 in Shields, a daughter of Barney and Bessie Alford Lewellen. She grew up in Santa Anna and graduated from Santa Anna High School in 1952. She attended college at Howard-Payne University for one year. On July 10, 1954 she married Billy Merryman in Coleman. Shirley worked in the office of Stemple Manufacturing in Coleman for 27 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Merryman of Coleman; four sons, Calvin Merryman and wife Terri of Burkett, Billy Merryman and wife Denise of Cypress, Mike Merryman of Coleman, Teddy Merryman and wife Cynthia of Clyde; eight grandchildren, Calisha Atkins, Calan Wills, LaShan Arthur, James Merryman, Shane Merryman, Amber Corgill, Jared Hale and Rode Merryman; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Dean Graves of Ft. Worth; numerous nieces and nephews.
Honorary Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Calan Wills, James Merryman, Shane Merryman, Jarad Hale and Rode Merryman.
