Soila (Dela Rosa) Calderon

Soila Dela Rosa Calderon, 87, of Abilene and former resident of Coleman, died on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023 at Hendrick Medical Center North in Abilene.  Recital of the Holy Rosary will be 6:00 p.m. Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street in Coleman.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 14, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 303 East College Avenue in Coleman, with Rev. Laurant Mvondo officiating.  Burial will be in the Coleman City Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Soila was one of nine children born on September 6, 1935 to Jesus Dela Rosa and Margaret Holguin Dela Rosa in Coleman.  Soila grew up in Coleman, where she attended school.  She married Tomas Calderon in 1968 in Abilene.  Soila loved cooking and making tamales and was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Tomas Calderon of Abilene; four children, Mary Salazar-Rios of Sacramento, California, Sandra Rodriguez of Coleman, Larry Rodriguez of Sacramento, California, Danny Calderon of Abilene; five brothers and sisters, Lillie Gonzales of Coleman, Sammy Dela Rosa of Coleman, Jesse Dela Rosa of Coleman, Becky Hinojosa of Fort Forth and Louis Dela Rosa of Krum.  Also surviving are seven grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are one son, Gilbert Rodriguez, one brother and two sisters.
