Stanley Curtis Hartman, a beloved member of the Santa Anna community, peacefully passed away at his home in Santa Anna, Texas, on Sunday, November 10, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born on April 15, 1946, in Santa Anna, Stanley dedicated his life to serving others, fostering deep connections within his community, and cherishing his family.
A proud graduate of Santa Anna High School, class of 1964, Stanley co-owned and operated H&H Food Mart with his brother Eddie for 19 years before retiring in 1994. His dedication to his work did not end there; he then took on a significant role at Santa Anna Independent School District as the bus maintenance supervisor and instructional aide, serving the district until 2010. Even after his formal retirement, Stanley continued his commitment to education by volunteering at the school until 2020.
Stanley’s unwavering faith was a cornerstone of his life. A devoted Christian, he was an active member and ordained deacon of Northside Baptist Church, where he found a strong sense of community and purpose. His connection to God was evident in the way he treated others with kindness and generosity. Stanley was known for his love of stew, and making stew, which tended to wear out its welcome with his family. Therefore, he made it his mission to share his culinary skills with those who were important to him.
Stanley was not only dedicated to his career and church, but he also passionately cultivated hobbies that brought him joy. He had a love for the game of golf and treasured the comradery that accompanied the sport. In addition, he enjoyed working in his yard and maintained a schedule that allowed him to relish in the simple pleasures of life. However, his most cherished moments were those spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.
Stanley was particularly proud of his accomplishments, having served on the board for Coleman County Telephone Cooperative for 31 years, as well as being a past president and member of the Coleman Country Club. His commitment to civic duty was further exemplified through his years of service on the Santa Anna City Council and volunteering for Meals on Wheels.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Hartman; two daughters, Stephanie Hartman and Robin Hartman Bass and her husband James; five grandchildren: Brittany Donahue and her husband Chris, who blessed Stanley with great-grandchildren Byler, Baylin, and Cecily; Jordan Mach and his wife Rayme, who shared with Stanley their grand dogs Jax, Costa, and Winston; Nate Salazar and his wife Genia Mae, who also blessed him with Nathan and Sophia; Hannah Hartman Snow and her husband James, who enriched Stanley’s life with James Russel, Jr., Texas, and George Stanley; and Shay Bass.
Stanley will also be missed by his siblings, Sandra Walker and her husband Harry, Cindy Boyle and her husband Daryl, Eddie Hartman and his wife Marylynn, and Ronnie Hartman and his wife Beth. He leaves behind his brother-in-law, Dale McClellan and his wife Penny, and sister-in-law, Alta McClellan, along with special friends Montie and Sandra Guthrie.
Preceding Stanley in death are his parents, William Edd Hartman and Ruby Esther Moore Hartman, his brother-in-law, Mark McClellan, and his sister-in-law, Mary Ann Hartman.
The family will host a visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Family and friends are invited to a funeral service celebrating his remarkable life at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 15, 2024, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Marvin Hale, pastor at Northside Baptist Church, officiating. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.
