Sue Smedley Evans Williams

Sue Smedley Evans Williams of Ft.  Worth, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Medical City Hospital in Ft. Worth.  Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman, with Rev. Chris Mesa, Senior Pastor at Arborlawn United Methodist Church in Fort Worth, officiating.  Interment will follow at Talpa Cemetery.  Family visitation will be at 1:00 just prior to the service.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Zelma Sue Smedley was born on September 25, 1932 in Coleman, Texas.  Her arrival occurred at the local jail during the time that her uncle, Frank Mills, was the Sheriff of Coleman County.  Her childhood was spent in rural areas of the county while her parents farmed the land.  At the age of 11, Sue and her family bought a home in Coleman.  She attended Coleman schools and graduated from Coleman High School in 1950.  Sue enjoyed attending her high school reunions and had plans to attend this year.

In November, 1950, Sue married Everett Gene Evans of Talpa, Texas.  They spent their early years together in Talpa, during which time their three sons were born.  In 1962, Sue and Gene moved to Columbus, Texas.  They spent many delightful years there raising their sons, while being involved in their church and many civic activities.

Upon Gene’s passing, Sue continued to live in Columbus until she reconnected with an old Coleman High School classmate at one of her reunions.  Sue married James (Jim) Williams in June, 2010.  She relocated to Ft. Worth where she and Jim spent eight wonderful years together.  Sue loved her church, Arborlawn United Methodist Church, and she enjoyed and loved her church family.

Sue lived an amazingly abundant life.  She traveled extensively and enjoyed every adventure to the fullest.  Over the years, her church and Bible studies have always been very important to her.  She has blessed many with her beautiful voice; we can just hear her now in Heaven’s choir!  Sue was always willing and ready to accept her “tour of duty” when a newborn came into our family.  She introduced our babies to her favorite songs – Jesus Loves Me, Mairsy Doats, Animal Fair, and of course, John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt!  Sue was very talented in many ways.  She was always up for a challenge, whether it was making purses from boot tops, beading gorgeous necklaces, or totally remaking the granddaughters’ formal gowns.  Sue could always get the seemingly impossible accomplished with perfection!  She was gifted with the ability to draw and paint in all mediums.  Sewing, upholstering, and quilting were all hobbies she enjoyed.  Sue worked tirelessly on family genealogy.  Her knowledge that she passed on to her family was an amazing, lifetime endeavor.    Much of the valuable information Sue secured on her search came from obituary articles of various family members of long ago.  We would never want to disappoint Nanny Sue—hence this very detailed record of her family!  That labor of love will forever be cherished by her loved ones.  Family was the heart of Sue’s interest, as she was always caring and concerned for everyone.

Sue will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.  Her legacy will live forever in the lives she touched.  We are and will become better people because of our beloved “Nanny Sue”!

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Lorena (Boe) Smedley; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy and Louise Smedley, Robert and Beth Smedley; a daughter-in-law, Dianne Evans.

Sue is survived by a large and loving family, including her husband, Jim Williams of Fort Worth, three sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Donna Evans of Fulshear, Steve and Kay Lynn Evans of Talpa, Smedley and Yvonne Evans of Richmond; step-daughter, Heather Baker and husband, Charles; grandchildren, Scott Evans, Jr., and wife, Kristen, Sarajane Gillen and husband, Chuck, Samantha Wegman and husband, Charlie, Lindsey Hensley and husband, Brent, Lauren Vasquez and husband, Brandin, Connor Evans, Travis Hayes, Fiona Barker; great grandchildren, Ashley and Riley Evans, Jason Sharp and wife, Ashley, Jeff Sharp and wife, Karli, Julianne Sharp, Chevy and Sammie Wegman, Landan, Camden, Morgan, Lincoln, and Arlyn Hensley, Layton, Callen, and Hallie Vasquez, Caitlyn Hayes and a great-great grandchild,  LolaMae Sharp, the daughter of Jason and Ashley, due to arrive December, 2018.  Also surviving are nieces, nephews, numerous cousins, and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Scott Evans, Steve Evans, Smedley Evans, Scott Evans, Jr., Connor Evans, and Landan Hensley.
