Susan McFarlane

November 3, 1947 — December 25, 2017

“Grandma Sue” McFarlane, age 70, of Coleman, died Monday, December 25, 2017, in Coleman County Medical Center. A celebration of her life will be held at a later time. Arrangements were made by Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman, Texas.

She was born Susan Jean Ziebell on November 3, 1947, in Burlington, Wisconsin, a daughter of Raymond Edward Ziebell and Ruth Barton Ziebell. She grew up in Burlington and graduated from high school there. While living in Wisconsin, she was a dispatcher for the Waterford Police Department. She later worked as a security guard and then in quality control for the Nestle Company. Sue liked to travel and in addition to Wisconsin, she lived in California and Rhode Island before moving to Ballinger, Texas in 1988. She lived in Ballinger for 20 years where she owned and operated Ken and Sue’s You Name It Shop. She moved to Coleman, Texas, in 2008 and continued as an antique dealer and collector. She especially loved vintage and antique jewelry. Sue was a person who liked to make people happy and was “Mom” to everything and everyone, including four rescue dogs who were sharing her home at the time of her death. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and it is fitting that she went to Heaven on Christmas Day. Sue loved owls, butterflies, cherubs, cardinals, poinsettias, carnations, and gaudy things. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends but she did not want people to be sad about her death but rather to celebrate the life that she lived.

Survivors include two daughters, Gail McFarlane and fiancée Joey Lachausse of Bastrop, Texas; Donna Chevalier and Ricky Williams of Coleman; one sister, Lynda Lile Berger of Fort Myers, Florida; three brothers, Ronald Ziebell of Chicago, Illinois, Raymond Ziebell of Burlington, Wisconsin and Michael Ziebell of Arkansas; four grandchildren, Whitney Remmers and husband Rick, Kenneth Chevalier and wife Paula, Clayton Bachtell, and R. J. Chicks; one great-grandchild, Isabella Remmers; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Cathy Ziebell, and her son, Michael Vincent McFarlane.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society Thrift Store in Coleman, Texas.
