Susan Neves, age 64, of Burkett, died Monday, May 26, 2014 in an Abilene hospital. Memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at the Christian Life Center in Burkett.
Susan was born May 30, 1949 in Duncan, Oklahoma, a daughter of Hall Cavel and Barbara Jean Fulton Deavers. She grew up in Arlington and attended school there. On November 26, 1980 she married Ernest G. Neves in Arlington. She lived in El Paso for a number of years and moved to Burkett, Coleman County, in 2007.
Susan was the Housing Manager for the Coleman Housing Authority. She was a devout Christian with incredible faith and was a staunch member of Burkett Baptist Church. She was an avid quilter, loving wife and mother, animal lover and rescuer. She wrote a blog entitled Life on the Bayou - "a little about quilting, daily life, kitties and whatever floats my boat at the time of writing."
Survivors include her husband, Ernie Neves of Burkett; three daughters, Christy Workowski and husband Rustin of Ripon, Wisconsin, Stacie Devoll and husband Lane of Arlington and Laura Anne Neves of Mesquite; one son, Lance Neves and wife Leslie Jane of Carrollton; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Kathy Clifton of Arlington and Cindy Cavel of Longview; four brothers, Jerry Cavel, Jimmy Cavel, Richard Cavel and Mike Cavel all of Longview; step-father, Bob Deavers of Fort Worth.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Deavers and father Hall Cavel.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life or any cancer organization.
Arrangements were made by Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman, Texas.
