Thelma Mae Blanton Sides, 92, of Coleman, Texas, passed away Friday, October 1, 2021. Thelma was born to Roy L Blanton and Annie Mae Smith Blanton on October 7, 1928, in Gouldbusk, Texas. She had an elder brother, Edmond Blanton.
Thelma graduated from Mozelle High School. She married the love of her life, Chester Lowe Sides, on February 11, 1950. Together they raised their children, son Monte Lee Sides and daughter Mitzi Anne Sides McBee, in Coleman, Texas. Thelma was passionate about her family and considered herself blessed with seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Thelma worked at Bowen Drug, Brinks Drug, Cross Pharmacy, and Owl Drug in Coleman. Thelma was an active member of First Baptist Church and the Unity Sunday School Class in Coleman and served her community through the Meals on Wheels program. All who knew her will remember her passion for gardening and watching the hummingbirds visit her home. She was an active participant in ranching on her family ranch, and she left no one uncertain of her opinions. She leaves behind many treasured friendships and many unsolved crossword puzzles.
Thelma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, parents, and brother. She is survived by her son Monte Sides and his wife Ami, of Coleman, Texas, and daughter Mitzi and her husband Harvey McBee II, of Rockport, Texas. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren are Jennifer Stool (Justin) and daughter Paige of Fair Oaks Ranch; Kelli Carpenter (Deke) and children Case, Ryland, and Sydni of Lubbock; Jim Bob Sides (Beatriz) and son Jaxon of McAllen; Harvey “Trey” McBee III (Jayme) and son Harvey “Drew” McBee IV of College Station; Kathleen McBee of Sugar Land; Audrey McBee of Houston; and Gabrielle McBee of Houston. Thelma’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren lovingly remember Grandmommy for all the memories made when they visited her at her house and the farm and when she travelled to visit them; the many meals and cookies she spoiled them with; her beautiful penmanship on each card she sent for every birthday, Christmas, and anniversary; and for setting the example along with Granddaddy of a lasting and loving marriage and family.
Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday, October 3, 2021, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W Pecan St, Coleman, Texas.
