Tommie Dee Roberts, age 94, passed peacefully into the arms of her Heavenly Father on May 11, 2017 after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. A former Coleman resident, she died at her Grand Court residence in Lubbock, TX. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 16 beginning at 11:00 AM at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman, followed by a graveside funeral service at 1:00 PM at Coleman City Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Dean, pastor of North Coleman Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman.
She was born Tommie Dee Reynolds on January 15, 1923 in Pecan Gap, Texas, a daughter of Dee Reynolds and Martha Belle Johnson Reynolds. She grew up in that area where she also attended school. She was married to Delbert Gault, Sr., for eight years. He died with cancer in 1948. Delbert Gault, Jr. was 16 months old when his dad died. Tommie worked for Sears for several years then with the persuasion of her pastor, she went to Decatur Baptist College. In addition to a degree, she met and married Billy L. Roberts in 1954. They moved to Coleman in 1977 when Brother Roberts was called to be the pastor of North Coleman Baptist Church. Tommie worked as a sales person for the House of Color in Coleman and later owned and operated an antique store here. Following her husband’s death on June 7, 2012, Tommie continued to live in Coleman and then moved to Lubbock in 2013 to be near her family. She was a member of North Coleman Baptist Church in Coleman.
Survivors include three sons, Delbert Ira Gault and wife Sherri of Lubbock, Craig A. Roberts and wife Carolyn of Apple Valley, California, Brian L. Roberts and wife Sharon of Coleman; three grandchildren, Dustin Gault and wife Alisha, Leanna Roberts Pritchard and husband Trey and Heather Roberts; great-granddaughter, Kendall Gault; great-grandson, Kasen Gault;; step-grandchildren Shelly Bryant, Rhonda Young and Tanya Wilcox; brother Bob Reynolds; and many nieces and nephews.
