Truman T. "Butch" Bell

On Thursday January 7, 2021, Truman T. (Butch) Bell passed away of natural causes at the age of 71.  Truman, a resident of Houston, TX was spending time with his family in Pagosa Springs, Colorado at the time of his passing.

Truman was born on March 20, 1949, in Coleman, Texas to William and Clara Bell.  He graduated from Coleman High School in 1967 and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Math and his master’s degree in Education from Tarleton State University.  Truman was a member of Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity and later became a Distinguished Alumnus, member of the President's Circle, and the Texan Club.

His career began in Stephenville, Texas, as Financial Aid Director and Director of Career Planning and Placement for Tarleton State from 1972-1976.  Other professional positions he held were Director of Career Planning and Placement at Texas Tech University 1976-1980, and College Recruiter for Conoco from 1980-1981.  Truman then began a 39 year career with Exxon/Exxon Mobil from 1981-2021 and ended with the position as Headquarters Community Relations Manager in Houston, Texas.  He married Connie Johnson in February 1972 and together they raised two sons and a daughter.  His family remembers him as intelligent, funny, and hardworking and his greatest joy was spending time with his family.  His two young granddaughters knew him as Tru-Dog.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Truman was preceded in death by his father William, mother Clara, two brothers John Bell and Harold Bell, nephew Dennis Bell and niece Karen Sue Knight Jewett.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years Connie of Pagosa Springs, Colorado; son Nathan Bell of Pagosa Springs, daughter Jordan Bell of El Paso, TX, son Mitchell Bell and wife, Erin, of Godley, Texas and granddaughters Remsley and Evie, both from Godley.  Also surviving are a brother Douglas Bell and wife, Jeanene, Abilene, Texas; sisters Dorothy Brown of Orlando, Florida, Mary Sue Knight and husband, Bill, of Joshua, Texas, Barbara Floyd and husband, Don, Chandler, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday June 12, 2021 at the Faith Lutheran Church 3000 NW Loop, Stephenville, Texas.  Burial will be at 4:00 p.m. at the Coleman City Cemetery, 1600 East 9th Street, Coleman, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Truman T. Bell Scholarship Endowment, P. O. Box T0260, Stephenville, Texas  76402.
