Van Copeland

January 21, 1943 — March 11, 2014

Monroe Van Copeland, age 71, died peacefully Tuesday, March 11, 2014 in his home. Visitation with the family with be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2014, at Stevens Funeral Home. The graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion. Interment will follow under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Van, as everyone knew him, was born January 21, 1943 in Coleman. He graduated from Coleman High School in 1961 and continued his education at McMurry College in Abilene where he graduated with a degree in Biology in 1966.

Van lived in other Texas cities such as Fort Worth, Houston and Arlington where he and his family resided for 16 years before he moved to Indonesia for 18 months. He also lived in Oklahoma before moving back to his childhood home in Coleman, which he helped his father build. Van has since resided there for the past 20 years.

Van owned and operated Copeland Pest Control which was part of the Coleman community for over 15 years. He retired in 2000.

Anyone that knew Van, knew that “He Did It His Way.”

Van is preceded in death by his father, John Monroe Copeland and mother, Verna Viola VanNess Copeland, and an infant sister.

He is survived by his sister, Lindell Joyce Smith and husband Weldon R. Smith of Brady, Texas. Van is also survived by the mother of his daughters, Lynda Henderson Copeland Smith of Granbury, Texas. His daughter Kim and husband Selwyn Moore, their children Brandon, Bryce, Bailey and Brady all of Valencia, CA. His daughter Stephanie and husband Brandon Smith and son Connor of Pearland, TX. Also surviving Van is his dearest, reliable friend Mary Morrison, of Coleman, TX. Other surviving relative is his nephew Richard Smith, wife Holly and their children Kelsey and Chad of Carrollton, Texas along with many cousins and exceptional friends.
