Due to the weather, the funeral service and visitation of Vida Blackwell has been to changed to Sunday, March 1, 2015.
Vida Blackwell, 91, of Coleman, died Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at the Allen Center at Holiday Hill Nursing Home in Coleman. Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman, with Roy Blackwell officiating. Burial will be in the Rockwood Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
She was born Vida Johnson on June 23, 1923 in Lohn to Robert Wesley and Lula Lavenia Johnson. She grew up in Lohn and graduated from Lohn High School. She married Roy Glenn Blackwell on February 13, 1942 in Brady. They lived in several communities across Texas, wherever Mr. Blackwell’s work took them. Following retirement, they moved back to Coleman in 1979. After the death of Mr. Blackwell in 1990, Mrs. Blackwell moved to Burleson. She was a member the First Baptist Church in Burleson.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda McKnight of Abilene; one son, Roy Blackwell of Burleson; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she also preceded in death by two sons, Bobby Glenn Blackwell, Bernie Lee Blackwell and 11 brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the funeral home.
Memorials may made to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.
