Wanda Lee Hood

February 15, 1931 — March 23, 2015

Wanda L. Hood, 84, of Coleman, died Monday, March 23, 2015 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion. Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Wanda Lee Jones on February 15, 1931 in Brownfield to Walter Maxie Jones and Nora Estelle Allmon Jones. Her parents were sharecroppers and moved all over east Texas. She graduated from Alexander High School in 1948. On June 2, 1951, Wanda married Dirl Dean Hood in Weatherford.

After the death of her husband in 1966, Wanda and her family moved to Coleman. She enjoyed sewing and often made her own clothes. She was independent and self-sufficient, including doing repair work and painting her house or working in the yard. She loved her family and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

Survivors include her four children, Cierra Khatib of Arvada, Colorado, Carol Weaver of Coleman, Charles Hood of Coleman, Carrie Gould and husband, David, of Huntsville, Alabama; one sister, Willie Faye Pitts of San Angelo; one brother, Wayne Jones of Coleman; daughter-in-law, Murphy Grainger of San Simon, Arizona; nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dirl Dean Hood, a daughter, Carmen Jean Hood, a step-son, Dirl D. Grainger and six brothers and sisters.
