The Lord called Wayne Alderson, 88, of Coleman, home on Monday, September 30, 2019 so he could join his wife, Ola Jean Alderson, who went before him on Saturday, August 17, 2019. There will be a visitation for both of them at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 12, at Stevens Funeral Home, with their service at 12:00 noon in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman. There will be a reception in the Fellowship Hall of First United Methodist Church, 500 W. Liveoak, Coleman, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Wayne David Alderson was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Victor Alderson and Myrtle Heng Alderson on July 31, 1931. Wayne grew up working on a farm and graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls in 1949. He joined the Marine Corps on January 11, 1950 and served proudly for six years active and six years active reserve. During his years in the Marines, he was stationed in San Diego, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and Camp Pendleton, California. His last duty station was at the Marine barracks in Great Lakes, Illinois, where he met Ola Jean Smith. Wayne and Ola Jean where married on February 5, 1953 at Lowrie Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado.
After being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps, Wayne went to work for Crescent Electric Supply Company. He worked his way to Corporate Treasurer and became a member of the Board of Directors for the company. Wayne retired from Crescent Electric Supply Company in 1995 after being with them for 39 years and he and Ola Jean moved to Coleman.
Wayne was an outdoorsman all of his life. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and playing cards with groups of friends. He even played semi-pro baseball as a young man and enjoyed all sports. He always supported local sports teams and attended as many Bluecat games as he could. Wayne helped with the C.H. Hale Prostate Foundation’s “Walk for a Cure” for many years and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Coleman.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Alderson and wife, Karin, of Seattle, Washington, Rusty Alderson and wife Nancy of Waller; three grandchildren, Anna Alderson and husband, Jeff Josephson, of Seattle, Washington, Siri Alderson of Seattle, Washington and Jason Dyer of San Antonio. Also surviving are two great grandchildren, Jonathan Dyer of San Antonio and Cameron Dyer of San Antonio.
Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Ola Jean Alderson on August 17, 2019 and one brother, Gerald D. Alderson.
