William N. "Bill" Baker

April 7, 1928 — September 2, 2017

William N. “Bill” Baker, 89, of the White Chapel community in Coleman County, died Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Hendrick Medical Center. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman, with Rev. Benny Allcorn officiating. Burial will be in the White Chapel Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

He was born William Navassa Baker on April 7, 1928 in Robeson County, North Carolina, a son of Aaron Joseph and Lettie Mae Hunt Baker. He grew up in Pembroke, North Carolina where he graduated from high school. He joined the Army Air Corp on April 2, 1946 and has honorably discharged from the Air Force on November 2, 1952. On September 22, 1947, he married Billie Lee Nelson in Brownwood.

After serving in the Air Force, Bill went to work with Seaboard Coast Line Railroad in Savannah, Georgia. He and Billie moved to Santa Anna in 1964 and then to Centennial from 1966 to 1983. In 1983, they moved to Billie’s family homestead in White Chapel. Bill was a farmer and rancher and a faithful member of Trinity Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Randy Ford of Frisco, Becky and Paul Reichenberger of Flower Mound; two sisters, Velma Deese of Pembroke, North Carolina, Joyce Baker of Pembroke, North Carolina; one brother, Ozell Baker of Pembroke, North Carolina; two grandsons, David Ford of Frisco, Daniel Ford of Frisco and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Billie, on April 2, 2011; one sister, Evelyn Ransom and two brothers, Arnold Ray Baker and Donald Baker.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 8, 2017 at Stevens Funeral Home.
