Willie Mae Gaines Wilson

June 17, 1919 — December 9, 2013

Willie Mae Gaines Wilson, age 94, resident of rural Santa Anna, Coleman County, died Monday, December 9, 2013 at 3:05 p.m. at her residence. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 12 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery near Grosvenor. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.


She was born Willie Mae Gaines on June 17, 1919 at Cross Cut in Brown County, Texas, a daughter of Wister Francis Gaines and Cora Lee Strickland Gaines. She attended school at Cross Cut.


On December 12, 1937 she married Walter Woodrow Wilson in Cross Plains. He preceded her in death on April 8, 1997. She was a member of the Grosvenor Baptist Church and a long-time dairy farmer and rancher in Coleman County.

She was a faithful supporter of the West Texas Rehabilitation Center Auction in Coleman and always contributed two cakes, German Chocolate and Italian Cream. She also contributed quilts that she had made.



Mrs. Wilson is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Rita Wilson Day and husband Clint Day of Santa Anna; one nephew, Jimmy L. Gaines and wife Faye and their children of Gault, California; seven grandchildren, Tammie Franke, Leslie (Tiger) Wilson, Sherry Vanpelt, Debra Urban, Derek Ray, Doug Ray and Tina Johnson; 14 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Eddy Bo Wilson, a daughter, Ann Ray, a grandson, Terry Joe Pickett, great-granddaughter, Kathleen Johnson.


Family visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman, Texas.
