Wilma Jean Downey

Jean Downey, 82, of Coleman, died Friday, December 6, 2013 in Bryan. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman, with Rev. Tracy Bartley officiating. Burial will follow in the Gouldbusk Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Wilma Jean Clark on May 12, 1931 to Robert Bruce Clark and Grace Snedegar Clark. She grew up in Coleman County and graduated from Coleman High School. She married Sherwood Downey on February 1, 1948 in Coleman. He preceded her in death on July 16, 2012.

Jean worked at J.E. Stevens Hardware for many years as a sales clerk. She was a wonderful cook and grandmother. She loved spoiling her grandkids every chance she got. Jean moved to Bryan in September to be closer to her family.

Survivors include two sons, Mike Downey of Bryan, Pat Downey of Coppell; one sister, Thelma Upton of Midland; four grandchildren, Chelsea Downey of Bryan, Davis Downey of Bryan, Krista Franklin of Hawley, Kaila Alba of Richardson and one great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband Sherwood, she was preceded in death by a son, Lee Downey; four sisters and one brother.
