Wilma Jean Sanders, age 88, of Coleman, died Friday, July 30, 2021, at Hendrick Medical Center in Brownwood.
The family will host a visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman. A graveside funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, August 1, 2021, at the Burkett Cemetery Pavilion. Interment will follow in the Burkett Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.
She was born Wilma Jean Strickland on November 23, 1932, in Haskell County to Sandy Alvin Strickland and Bessie Fay Dickerson Strickland. She grew up in Rochester where she attended school. Wilma married Oman Travis Sanders on August 23, 1948, in Winert. Oman and Wilma moved to Coleman where they owned and operated the Furniture Co. for many years. Wilma enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking, and growing flowers. Her biggest achievement was being a wife and mother. Wilma took great care of her family and loved them all very much. She was a member of Concho Baptist Church.
Preceding Wilma in death are her parents, Sandy Alvin Strickland and Bessie Fay Strickland; her husband, Oman Travis Sanders; her son, Travis Sanders; her daughter, Wilma Yvonne Key; her great-granddaughter, Makenna Ellis; three sisters; and four brothers.
She is survived by her son, Darrell Sanders of Coleman; her grandchildren, Karmen Ellis, Jeff Key, Brian Sanders, Leigh Oxford, Texas Marie Sanders, and Phoenix Quinn Sanders; her great-grandchildren, Alexis Cohen, Lange Ellis, Cullin Ellis, Makayla Key, Noah Key, Abbi McNutt, Avery Sanders, Audrey Sanders, Michael Ann Sanders, and Charlie Sanders.
Memorials are suggested in memory of Wilma to Concho Street Baptist Church, 1700 S. Concho Street, Coleman, Texas 76834.
